Bhathinda gangrape: No gangrape, 24-yr-old woman concocted story: IG

Terming the complaint of a 24-year-old woman that she was abducted and raped by two men and later thrown out of a car in Bathinda district, as “concocted”, the Bathinda police on Monday arrested the woman in question and another accused, Rohitas.
The woman had alleged that she was abducted from outside the Sector 17 inter-state bus terminus in Chandigarh on January 18 by two women and two men. The victim, who hails from Moga district, had claimed she was raped by the two men and thrown out of a moving car on Saturday near Sangat Mandi in Bathinda on January 20.
While addressing the media on Monday, Bathinda Inspector General Nirmal Singh Dhillon said: “The woman, Gurvir, allegedly concocted the gangrape story to teach a lesson to the wife of Sunil Kumar, who had lodged a case of attempt to murder against her and Sunil in January 2012 at Khuian Sarvar police station in Fazilka.”
The woman, who was arrested under various sections of the IPC, including Section 182 (false information) and 420 (cheating), was reportedly in a relationship with Sunil before his wife Kanta filed a case of attempt to murder against them. While Sunil is currently in prison, she was out on bail in the case.
Gurvir, in her complaint, had claimed that she was raped by Amir Chand and Vijay Kumar with the help of two women — Sunil’s wife Kanta and his mother. While Amir Chand is Kanta’s uncle, Vijay Kumar is her brother, the IG said.
Announcing that the “false rape case” has been cancelled, Dhillon said: “The woman had illicit relations with Kanta’s husband Sunil and both used to torture her and administer injections to keep her unconscious. Once when Kanta fell ill, she was taken to a hospital for a check up where she was diagnosed HIV positive. Kanta’s father Ram Partap had alleged that his daughter had been administered HIV positive injection by the woman and Sunil.
While Gurvir was out on bail in the attempt to murder case, Sunil’s bail application was to be heard in Punjab and Haryana High Court on February 11, he added.
“Gurvir had named Kanta, her mother, Amir Chand and Vijay Kumar in the false rape case. None of the four were in Chandigarh at the time of alleged incident,” said the IG. The police have registered a case against Gurvir, Sunil and two others — Ramesh Kumar and Rohitas — for their involvement in the case. Ramesh and Rohtas had claimed that they had found Gurvir dumped on the road and had got her admitted to the civil hospital.
“Ramesh and Rohitas were Sunil’s friends had been been in jail together in connection with an illicit liquor case. Gurvir, who earlier worked as a nurse in Bathinda, met Ramesh and Rohitas during a court hearing at Fazilka on January 8, where they hatched a conspiracy to teach Kanta a lesson,” Dhillon said.
As planned, on January 18, the trio met at Dabwali after Gurvir left her home in Moga district. She had told her family that she was going to Chandigarh. “Ramesh and Rohitas took her to a relative’s house in Panniwala. She stayed there before she was picked up by the duo in a hired vehicle and taken to the hospital,” said Dhillon.
Kanta was to undergo an eye surgery at the PGI in Chandigarh in January. “The accused thought this will help them prove that Kanta was in Chandigarh on the day of the incident. But Kanta was operated upon on January 14 and discharged the same day. She stayed at a relative’s house in Burail on January 15 and returned home the next day. Kanta’s mother, Amir Chand and Vijay Kumar never visited Chandigarh,” the IG said.
