Car abandoned at Krishnagiri was the one stolen from Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Though they missed hi-tech thief Davinder Singh by a whisker, the police have managed to recover the luxury sports utility vehicle he stole from the NRI industrialist in Thiruvananthapuram.

"We have confirmed that the vehicle that was found abandoned on the road at Krishnagiri was the one stolen from the house of Venugopalan Nair. We have already initiated procedures to bring the vehicle back to Thiruvananthapuram," said city police commissioner P Vijayan.

"A police team manning a toll booth at Madurai spotted Davinder and the vehicle. They informed us that the vehicle was moving towards Krishnagiri. The message was promptly passed on to Krishnagiri superintendent of police Asok Kumar, who intercepted the car there. But Davinder abandoned the vehicle and fled in a taxi car. Krishnagiri police noted down the registration number of the taxi and also the mobile number of the driver, which was displayed on the vehicle, and passed it on to the investigation team. This information was again passed on to the Karnataka police as the vehicle was moving in the direction of Bangalore," he said.

"We have been receiving solid information until the thief reached Krishnagiri," he said, adding that he had no idea on what happened at Rayakottai in Karnataka, where Davinder was initially reported to have been held.
