Four peeping toms arrested for recording, circulating clips of women

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Peroorkadapolice on Saturday arrested four youngsters suspected to be part of a gang that records women bathing and circulate the clips.

The four were arrested based on a complaint filed by a woman.

In her complaint, the woman, who is an executive with a leading healthcare company, said: "while taking bath on Friday around 11.30pm, I spotted a hand holding a mobile phone at the ventilator of the bathroom". The woman alerted her roommate who immediately rang up their friends living nearby. The friends broke into the neighbouring house and seized the mobile phone.

The arrested have been identified as Ratheesh (32) from Ambalappuzha in Alappuzha, Rajeesh (27) from Vellarada, Joy Das (20) from Poovar and Prasanth (27), a native of Vellanadu. Police have retrieved five camera cellphones, three digital cameras and a number of pen drives from their room.

Police said the complainant and the accused have been tenants in neighbouring houses at Ambalamukku for the past six months. The youngsters were taken into custody on Friday midnight and their arrest was recorded on Saturday morning.

They have admitted to the crime and told police that they destroyed the memory card used for recording the visuals.

Ratheesh, the main accused who tried to record the woman, is as an office boy with a firm in Technopark while the three others work with the Coastal Area Development Corporation office here. All four have been remanded in judicial custody.

Police said their mobile phones and memory cards will be examined in detail to find out whether there were more such clips. An inquiry to find out whether they had uploaded any clips on internet is also on.
