Imposter auditions girls for Madhur Bhandarkar

After stalkers and threat calls comes this rather curious piece of news. TOI has learnt that an SMS, that appeared to have been sent out by Bhandarkar Entertainment, was being circulated to various female artists, promising them a sum of up to Rs 8,000 per day for a 20-day shoot.

Realising someone was posturing as Bhandarkar Entertainment, the production house decided to investigate and found the text message was fake. It has now filed both a police complaint and a complaint with the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell, claiming no one was authorised by it to remit such a message.

The text message read, "Required 100 girls for a Madhur Bhandarkarfilm. Pay 8k each day for 20 days Shoot! Interested people, kindly mail your pictures to @#$. For queries contact @#$ Brief information will be given after shortlisting. Travel and accommodation is provided as the shoot's around Pune!"

Explaining what transpired, Vinay Chaukar, Line Producer, Bhandarkar Entertainment, told us, "There was a message on mobiles and chat messenger about Madhur's next film. We tried contacting that number. Finally, when we got through, it was a man's voice at the other end. We evinced interest in being cast in the film. He replied, 'The casting is done'. Immediately, we revealed we were from the company and that there was no such thing happening. The person realised he had been caught and promptly hung up."

Apparently, the production house tried calling the same number many times but there was no response. At that point, it went ahead and registered a complaint with the Versova Police Station. The officials there advised filing a complaint with the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell at BKC too.

Asked whether the cops have been able to nail the impostor, Chaukar said, "They've asked us to give them a few days time before they get back to us."
