CHANDIGARH: The Shiromani Akali Dal on Wednesday joined the Modi-for-PM bandwagon with party president Sukhbir Singh Badal sayingNarendra Modi is a suitable candidate for the 2014 polls.
"SAD will support whoever BJP chooses as its PM candidate," he told TOI. When asked if he thought Modi was a suitable candidate, Sukhbir said, "Modi is certainly a suitable and ideal candidate. Modi is a good leader. He has donetremendous work in development."
Modi is close to the Badals. In 2011, he had attended the bhog ceremony after the death of Badal Sr's wife, Surinder Kaur. Sukhbir is said to be a votary of Modi's brand of "development politics" and a large part of SAD's win in the Punjab assembly polls last year is attributed to Sukhbir's promoting the development plank.
On JD(U)'s objection to Modi, Sukhbir said, "I don't comment on what JD(U) does, but we will be always with BJP."
