ndian student found dead in London

London, Jan 23 (IBNS): British police on Tuesday afternoon have recovered the body of an Indian student, identified as the missing Souvik Pal, from a canal here. Pal had gone missing on the New Year Eve, reports said.

The 18-year-old was found dead by specialist officers in Bridgewater Canal, near Manchester United's Old Trafford football ground, at 2 pm.

Souvik, an international student who had enrolled for product design course at Manchester Metropolitan University, went missing while on a night out at the Warehouse Project in Trafford, Greater Manchester.

He also trained for a part-time job serving refreshments at the stadium and worked at Manchester United's game against West Bromwich Albion on Dec 29.

According to reports, he was last seen at an event on the New Year Eve around 11 pm and was reported missing by a flatmate the following morning.

Souvik's father Santanu Pal had travelled from his home in Bangalore to trace his son here.

Several attempts were made to trace the teenager, including the use of digital advertising hoardings at Manchester United's domestic Premier League of Football home game against Liverpool.

The British police engaged in tracing Souvik, offered condolences to the family and extended their support.

Detective Chief Inspector Colin Larkin said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with Souvik’s family at this devastating time and our officers are doing all they can to support them."

Ruling out any suspicious occurrence in the case, Larkin asserted: “We do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding Souvik’s death and a file will be submitted to the Coroner in due course.”
