Probe ordered into fake HC order

KOCHI: Kerala high court on Tuesday ordered an enquiry about a fake high court order presented to the ministry of tourism to prevent an inspection to grant bar licence at a resort in Thrissur. Justice P R RamachandraMenon directed the high court registrar in charge of vigilance to initiate an enquiry after the resort owner produced a copy of the forged high court order along with his petition.

P Sasidharan, proprietor of Noopura Residence at Pazhayannur in Thrissur, approached the high court after he was informed by ministry of tourism that as per an order issued by the high court on January 21, all further proceedings of the classification inspection was to be kept in abeyance.

It is the Hotel and Restaurant Approval and Classification Committee (HRACC) of the tourism ministry that issues star ratings in India after inspection. The ratings are relied upon by the state government to issue bar licences.

Though an inspection team of the tourism ministry had come to Kerala, they didn't conduct inspection at Noopura Residency, the petitioner pointed out.

The forgery was detected when Sasidharan obtained a copy of the high court order and cross checked with the registry of the high court. The forged order used a real case number related to a different petition. The name and address of the petitioner in the forged court order was that of one Belji Thomas, president of Gandhi Cultural Centre.

Sasidharan has alleged in the petition that Belji had filed separate complaints before different authorities in different names. Secretary of the tourism department had conducted a detailed enquiry regarding Belji's complaint and his contentions were dismissed earlier, the petition said.
