MUMBAI: The Shiv Sena is set to anointUddhavThackeray as party chief. A formal announcement is likely to be made at a function on January 23 to mark the late BalThackeray'sbirth anniversary. Uddhav, who is at present theSena CEO, will be formally installed as Sena chief in the presence of senior party leaders and ShivSainiks, said a party functionary on Monday.

"Being Balasaheb's natural successor, Uddhavji will take over as party president," said a Sena functionary on Monday. However, Uddhav has chosen not to call himself Shiv Sena pramukh.

After his father's death in 2012, Uddhav said the Sena patriarch was the only rightful claimant to the title. Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray may take over as party CEO from his father, Uddhav.

Uddhav is likely to unveil his party revamp plan. In his speech, he is expected to dwell on issues such as the severe drought and shortage of water and electricity.
