Tight Security, Welfare Schemes Mark R-Day in India


Republic Day was celebrated in all parts of the country with much enthusiasm.
Official sources said there was heavy security and police deployment at various parts of Manipur in view of the boycott call of the Republic Day celebrations by all major insurgent organisations of the north-east, including United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and Revolutionary People's Front (RPF).

Rural Development Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar, who presided over the main Republic Day function in Kashmir, said those who have differing views should come to the dialogue table to put forth their point of view.
While addressing a gathering after inspecting the Republic Day parade, the GoaGovernor B V Wanchoo said "People with sick and neurotic minds are perpetrating heinous crimes on our innocent women and children in some parts of the country, including Goa.".

In a major announcement, he said "in order to encourage Goan youth to join defence services, the Government has framed a scheme under which Rs one lakh will be given to youth who are commissioned in the armed forces.
Andhra Pradesh has posted a growth rate of 6.50 per cent in its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), as against the national average of 5.37 per cent, in the first half of 2012-13, Governor E S L Narasimhan said while delivering the Republic Day address after unfurling the national tri-colour at Parade Ground here.

Tight security arrangements had been made in Maoist-affected districts like Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Gajapati and Nuapada.

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen (Retd) J J Singh , in his Republic Day speech after unfurling the tri-colour at I G Park said, "I dream of a bright future for all Arunachalis, where they not only enjoy the highest per capita income, but also the highest per capita happiness. May our 'Land of the Rising Sun' continue to stand strong as the eastern sentinel of our great nation."

Stating that peace and public order was necessary for all-round development, Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan today said the state has registered significant growth in various sectors in the first half of the current financial year.

Taking salute from various contingents of security forces at the Assam Rifles ground here on the Republic Day, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today appealed to the people to remain alert from the forces who were trying to destroy sovereignty of the country.

The Republic Day boycott called by Northeast militant outfits, including the ULFA and NDFB, failed to evoke response in Assam with people coming out in large numbers to attend the celebrations.
Contingents of police, Homeguards, NCC and school children among others participated in the parades held at several district headquarters in the Punjab, Haryana and their joint capital Chandigarh.
Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil and Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia unfurled the tri-colour at Ropar and Faridabad respectively, while Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Haryana counterpart Bhupinder Singh Hooda took salute at Amritsar and Rewari respectively.
Transforming the state's young into an educated and skilled work force, changes in the higher education system aimed at sensitising the youth towards human values and making them responsible citizens are some of the things Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi advocated in his Republic Day address.
West Bengal with Governor M K Narayanan hoisted the tricolour before taking the salute at the parade.

Contingents of the armed forces, para-military, state and Kolkata Police marched past the saluting dais at the Indira Gandhi Sarani here with military might also on display.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, some of her cabinet colleagues and Chief Secretary Sanjay Mitra witnessed the parade.

Tableaux by the India Navy, Air Force, Engineers, Corps Signal as well as Health and Family Department also rolled down the road.

A tableau of the West Bengal State Assembly, though listed was absent from the parade.

Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy made a strong case for statehood to Puducherry in his Republic Day address.

Nagaland celebrated the 64th Republic Day with Governor Nikhil Kumar calling on citizens to ensure free and fair Assembly elections on February 23.
"Due to positive efforts of the state government Bihar has witnessed all-round growth....The government is committed to bring the state among the front row of developed ones," Bihar Governor Devanand Konwar said after taking salute from marching contingent on 64th Republic Day.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi and a host of state ministers and high civil and police officials were present at the celebration in Gandhi Maidan.

”I appeal to all militant elements in the State to seek resolution of their demands through established democratic processes by peaceful means and shun violence,” theMeghalaya Governor R S Mooshahary said in his Republic Day speech.

Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj today said secularism was the basis of the country's existence and highlighted the importance of a disciplined democracy.

In his address after hoisting the national flat at the Republic Day celebrations here, he reminisced Mahatama Gandhi's comparative message of disciplined and prejudiced democracy.

Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt today said the state was witnessing benefits of development-oriented policies and efforts to deal with naxalism.

Sacrifices of the security forces and common people who lost their lives in naxal violence will not go in vain, he said, in his message on the occasion of 64th Republic day.

The Governor unfurled the national flag at Police Line Grounds amidst colourful cultural ceremony.

The main function for the Republic Day in Madhya Pradesh was held at Lal Parade Ground here where Governor Ram Naresh Yadav unfurled the national flag and took salute at a march past of various security forces.

Folk dances were presented on the occasion and at least 20 departments of the State Government displayed their tableaux.

Terming the 64th Republic Day celebrations at Ahwa village in the tribal-dominated Dang district today as "a historic feat", Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi appealed the youth to contribute to the nation-building.

The tricolour was unfurled on this occasion by Governor Dr Kamla, followed by a grand police parade.
Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan inspected the ceremonial parade and took salute from the marching contingents of the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, CISF, State Reserve Police Force and Mumbai police at Shivaji Park here.

"Scarcity has been declared in 7,064 villages. 1,477 tankers have been deployed to supply water to 1,048 villages and 3,671 wadis (hamlets)," he said.

"State government has disbursed Rs 684 crore for fodder supply and started 395 cattle camps. 18,907 works under the MNREGA are in progress with 1,48,614 labour attendance."
