UDF leaders to take up diesel issue with PM

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF leaders on Tuesday decided to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and request him to remove the KSRTC from the bulk users' list. The delegation will also request the Centre to reconsider the decision to withdraw thediesel subsidy.

The UDF hopes that the Centre would soon decide on this issue or else the state government should come up with an alternative to help the crisis-ridden KSRTC, UDF convener P P Thankachan said after the meeting.

However, the UDF meeting convened here evaded crucial issues - such as according sanction of aided status to 33 unaided schools and the NSS controversy. However, the meeting discussed the appointment of Devaswom board members and the vice-chancellor and pro vice-chancellor appointments.

The meeting asked ministers V S Sivakumar and Abdu Rabb to finalize the appointments and submit a report at the next UDF meeting on February 11. The UDF has also decided to call forest minister K B Ganesh Kumar and revenue minister Adoor Prakash for the next meeting to discuss the Nelliyampathy and fair value issues.

Interestingly, neither the Congress nor the Muslim League raise the unaided school issue, though both parties were at loggerheads over sanctioning the aided status to 33 schools in Malabar area.

The Janata Dal and the Kerala Congress (Jacob) and Balakrishna Pillai factions protested against finalizing the nominees for the district cooperative bank elections without holding proper discussions among the constituent partners.
