Woman foils rape bid by neighbour

NEW DELHI: A woman was assaulted by her neighbour when she resisted a rape attempt, police said. The incident was reported from Bawana, west Delhi after the victim's husband fiuled an FIR, police said. 

The accused, identified as Ram Gopal, belongs toBihar and had come to the capitalfor a job, police said. The victim(24) is a mother of a child. 

The woman had left home for some work when she was spotted by the accused. Ram first tried to force himself upon her and when she resisted, he beat her up with a wooden stick while the woman screamed for help. The woman also sustained wounds from the sharp-edged object, police said. 

The accused, however, fled the spot when some passersby rushed to protect the woman, an officer said. The woman was rushed to a hospital and her husband was informed. 

A case regarding the incident has been registered after the victim's husband told police that his wife was been stalking by the accused for some time now. Raids are being conducted to nab the accused. We are yet to note down the victim's version as she has been under observation, a cop said.
